Chess Pieces REYKJAVIK 1972 – The Match of the Century Pieces

Want to feel the weight of history in your hands? These are replicas of the pieces with which Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky decided the World Chess Championship in Reykjavik 1972 – in the match that stopped the world.

  • Historical design – Exact reproduction of the 1972 World Championship match pieces
  • Made from premium boxwood – Same material, same level of craftsmanship as the originals
  • Ebonized black pieces – Deep black pieces create a classic, tournament-worthy appearance
  • Weighted and felted – Stable playing feel that withstands the peaks of tension
  • Two extra queens – Ready for crucial pawn promotions

When the Cold War Was Decided on the Chessboard

In 1972, Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky battled for the World Championship in the most widely followed match in chess history. Fischer strangely lost the first two games – the second even by forfeit when he refused to play due to a dispute over playing conditions.

When the tournament organizers refused his demands and the match appeared destined for a forfeit victory, Spassky yielded – it would have been a hollow victory.

The Historic Turnaround With These Pieces

Fischer fought back and decisively defeated Spassky with a final score of 12½-8½, having won 7 and lost only 1 of the remaining games. The 24-year Soviet reign was over. The American had single-handedly toppled the mighty Soviet chess establishment... With these pieces.

This isn't just a chess piece set – it's a piece of chess history.
