German Staunton chess pieces made of acacia and boxwood, ebonized, and carved to match are polished and weighted German pieces recommended by the international chess federation FIDE for tournament use in the prestigious Staunton style.
Each piece is individually polished and weighted. The soft bottom felt allows the checkers to slide without friction and protects both the checkers and the surface of the board from scratches.
The extra queens come in handy when a pawn or someone else advances on the board to the opponent's end. You no longer need to use out-of-play pieces or come up with other creative solutions to represent a pawn-promoted queen.
